Greetings everyone,
Do you ever find yourself asking your co-workers over and
over to do things that NEVER seem to EVER get accomplished?
Are the requests that you put in memos and letters being
ignored by your colleagues and superiors?
Do you have a hard time getting your suggestions past
management?
If you answered YES to ANY of the above questions, you
should plan to attend the ARMA Halifax workshop "Persuasive Writing That
Produces Results." Persuasive writing is the backbone of any successful
marketing program. Sooner or later, we are all called upon to write
memos, letters, and reports to internal and external audiences on a variety of
topics. The common denominator is that we need to market a particular
viewpoint or outcome, but persuading the other party(ies) of the merits of our
proposals can be difficult. Too many good ideas are ignored, or worse
declined, because the written materials do not accurately communicate the merits
and benefits of the ideas to the reader, as well as, overcome the
objections in the reader's mind. This seems to be a common problem in
various libraries, records centres, and other information related
organizations. At the end of this session the participants will be able
to:
1. Choose and implement a persuasive strategy.
2. Write effective subject lines for persuasive messages.
3. Develop reader benefits.
4. Identify and overcome objections.
5. Motivate the reader to take the action you want.
This is being presented by two experienced presenters:
Professor Barbara Casey, IT Department Mount Saint Vincent
University, and Kathleen Bugbee, Nova Scotia Government, who both
have a lot of experience in the area of persuasive writing. It is the
sneak preview of their presentation to be given at ARMA Canada's Information
Symposium in May in St. John's Newfoundland. Price for ARMA members
is $5.00, bring a guest and the price is $20 for the two of you. The price
to non-members is $30.00. A refreshment break is included in the
price.
This workshop is being held on April 13, 2005 at the
Aikens Room, Public Archives of Nova Scotia from 8:30 am for 9:00 am to 12:00
noon. A program brochure with an integrated registration form is available
upon request. Please contact Kathleen Bugbee 424-8709 or [log in to unmask] by April 11, 2005 to
obtain more information and register. Please bring your cheques and
cash with you on the day of the program.
I am planning to attend this informative session and I
hope that you will too!
