AUDIO CONFERENCE: NON-FIRST NATIONS PEOPLE WORKING WITH/IN FIRST NATIONS
COMMUNITIES

Please excuse cross-posting of this message.
****************************************************************

An audio conference on the topic " Non-First Nations People Working
With/In First Nations Communities" will be hosted at the Nova Scotia
Provincial Library on March 24th. This one hour audio session is
offered through The Education Institute: The learning programs of the
APLA-BCLA-LAA-NSLA-OLA-SLA Partnership. The instructor will be John
Taylor, a consultant who has teaching experience in First Nations
Communities.

While there has been a substantial effort to increase the number of
First Nations teachers, librarians, and social workers who work with/in
First Nations communities, the reality is that a great number of
Non-First Nations people continue to work directly with first Nations
communities and people. Very little work or training is being done to
better prepare Non-First Nations people for the roles they may play
in/with First Nations communities. In order to be as effective as
possible when working in any cross-cultural setting it is important to
consider context, content and curriculum. When these three variables are
examined the opportunities for improvement become apparent.

WHO SHOULD PARTICIPATE
This session is most suited to Non-First Nations people working with
First Nations communities or people.
