NOTE: This post is of interest to librarians providing service to the business
and/or non-profit sectors of HRM and surrounding areas (100 km radius of
Halifax).

Greetings everyone,

ARMA Halifax Chapter is pleased to sponsor the November workshop "Organizing
Your Records: Know what you have and how to find it!!" This three hour
workshop is being presented by Professor Barbara Casey, Information Technology
Department, Mount Saint Vincent University, Halifax. This introductory level
workshop is designed for anyone in business, non-profits, or government who
must organize and find records quickly and easily. This is of particular
importance to those businesses that must now comply with the provisions of the
Privacy Act.

This session includes hands-on exercises, and a discussion of issues facing
businesses, non-profits and junior government people on a daily basis. The
program lays the foundation for Parts 2 and 3 that will follow in the new year.
The topics include: developing a records management plan, reviewing the
Records Life Cycle and determining what a record is, conducting inventory of
paper and electronic records, deciding what to keep and for how long,
classifying and scheduling and establishing controls, and promoting the program
within your company or department.
