Libraries everywhere are facing budget cuts, staff cut-backs and political challenges within their environment. "Library Marketing That Works" was developed to meet the needs of librarians and administrators everywhere to provide them with information and tools for marketing the library using advocacy, programming, fund raising, partnering, public relations, community building, advertising and more. This sixty minute session will be of interest to library directors, administrators, public librarians, school librarians, university librarians, and library board members. KEY TOPICS EXPLORED DURING THE SESSION Marketing concepts and the marketing planning process applied to libraries. The six P's of marketing (product, place, price and promotion as well as positioning and the role of politics.) Effective public relations, advertising and promotion. Everyone plays a role in the marketing process, as evident in customer service. Marketing and technology enhances our knowledge of our customers and speeds up the delivery of programs and services. Database marketing and the Web provide new opportunities for marketing. BENEFITS OF THE PROGRAM Create an awareness of marketing, marketing planning and marketing concepts and how they work in libraries. Encourage library professionals to embrace marketing and to have the confidence to engage in marketing tactics to create prosperity for their library and their staff.
