The Nova Scotia Provincial Library will be hosting a broadcast of the
OLA Audio Conference "Library Marketing That Works" with instructor
Suzanne Walters, author of the book of the same title and Director of
Marketing and Development, Denver Public Library. Libraries everywhere
are facing budget cuts, staff cut-backs and political challenges within
their environment. "Library Marketing That Works" was developed to
meet the needs of librarians and administrators everywhere to provide
them with information and tools for marketing the library using
advocacy, programming, fund raising, partnering, public relations,
community building, advertising and more. This sixty minute session
will be of interest to library directors, administrators, public
librarians, school librarians, university librarians, and library board

Marketing concepts and the marketing planning process applied to
libraries. The six P's of marketing (product, place, price and promotion
as well as positioning and the role of politics.)

Effective public relations, advertising and promotion.

Everyone plays a role in the marketing process, as evident in customer
service. Marketing and technology enhances our knowledge of our
customers and speeds up the delivery of programs and services. Database
marketing and the Web provide new opportunities for marketing.

Create an awareness of marketing, marketing planning and marketing
concepts and how they work in libraries.

Encourage library professionals to embrace marketing and to have the
confidence to engage in marketing tactics to create prosperity for their
library and their staff.

Provide library administrators and staff with an introduction to a
resource that can be of assistance as they embark on this new direction.
