DUTIES:
This position is responsible for providing leadership in the application of new technologies to virtual public library service and resource sharing, and will represent the Provincial Library and Nova Scotia  public libraries in partnerships relating to virtual public library service development.  The incumbent works with Library and Archives Canada on resource sharing issues and promotes resource sharing activities by Nova Scotia institutions. Acts as a resource and provides advice on emerging technologies for resource sharing and virtual public libraries and promotes related projects and initiatives.


QUALIFICATIONS:
Post graduate degree from an ALA-accredited program of library and information studies with a minimum of 5 years professional experience, preferably in a public library setting.  The successful candidate will have demonstrated knowledge of current and emerging library information technologies, understanding of and experience with MARC records and integrated library systems as the foundation of virtual library services, and a keen interest in new technologies as they relate to online library services.   Experience with web design is required.  Strong leadership, communication and  negotiation skills are essential, as well as experience in organizing and conducting meetings, public speaking and making presentations, and building partnerships.  Knowledge of the Nova Scotia public library system and a working knowledge of French are assets.

SALARY RANGE:  $1,680.84 - $2,043.22 bi-weekly
