Mount Allison University
Reference/Information Literacy Librarian

Mount Allison University Libraries invite applications from qualified
candidates for the position of Reference/Information Literacy Librarian.
This is a 2-year term appointment.

The Mount Allison University Libraries and Archives are committed to
working with students and faculty to promote its services. We seek an
innovative and dynamic professional capable of meeting user needs through
the provision of reference services and via the vibrant Information
Literacy Programme.

Duties

As a member of the Public Services team, responsibilities will include
reference service, information literacy instruction, the development of
reference and instructional materials in a variety of media, collection
development for multiple subject areas, and outreach activities in the
Mount Allison University Libraries and Archives.

In the first year of the appointment, the successful candidate will work
closely with faculty and librarians to continue the development, promotion,
delivery and assessment of information literacy initiatives for the Mount
Allison University Libraries. The librarian will also be expected to focus
on meeting user needs through the provision of excellent reference service.
The second year will involve working in close collaboration with the
Information Literacy Coordinator to integrate more fully the information
literacy programme into the curricula at Mount Allison and participate in
related research projects. Some evening and weekend work will be required.

Qualifications or requirements

Qualifications for this position include an MLS or equivalent from an ALA
accredited library school. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated
abilities in providing instructional and reference services in a collegial,
academic environment; and experience in the planning, designing, delivery
and evaluation of information literacy programmes. The successful candidate
must possess excellent oral and written communication skills; a strong
public service centred philosophy; and a keen interest in teaching,
reference, and outreach. Familiarity with web-based and instructional
technologies would be an asset.
