Dear HLA Members & Members of the Halifax Library Community:

Just a reminder that the annual general meeting of the Halifax Library Association is scheduled for Thursday, May 13, 2004 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the National Research Council, Institute for Marine Biosciences, 1411 Oxford Street, Theatre. The theatre is on the 4th floor (enter the building's main entrance-only one is open after 5:30 pm) and take the elevator to the 4th floor. As usual, refeshments will be served.  HLA's membership numbers have almost doubled since this time last year which is wonderful news but we also need to ensure we have a quorum to conduct business.  We hope to see as many members as possible at the meeting (as well as new ones too!)

I have attached a 2004-2005 HLA membership form. Please feel free to complete it and bring to the AGM, along with your membership fee. If you cannot attend the AGM, you can always complete the form and mail it, along with your membership fee, to the HLA Treasurer as outlined on the form. Non-HLA members are welcome to attend but are requested to join the association at the AGM.

The Halifax Library Association needs to fill the following positions to serve on next year's Executive: Vice-President/President-Elect, Membership Convenor and one Councillors. Next year is shaping up to one of the most exciting in the association™s history with the 70th Year Anniversary Party on the horizon! If you or one of your colleagues would like to serve on the Executive, please contact the Nominations Committee Chair, Darlene Chapman, by e-mail at [log in to unmask] It would be appreciated if you could contact Darlene by Friday, May 7th. Serving on the HLA Executive is rewarding, fun and a great way to meet new people in the library and information science field!

Sincerely,
Debbie Costelo
HLA President 2003-2004
