Public Services Librarian Health Sciences Library DESCRIPTION: This position reports to the Head of Public Services in the Health Sciences Library. The major responsibilities are in the areas of reference and instruction, with an emphasis on the development and expansion of the Library's information literacy programs. The successful applicant will participate in the planning, design, and delivery of instruction sessions, promotion and liaison with faculty, providing reference assistance (some evening and weekend hours required), the development of innovative reference services, collection development, and other library service duties. The Health Sciences Library serves the faculty, staff and students of Memorial University's Faculty of Medicine, and Schools of Nursing and Pharmacy, and the staff and students of the Health Sciences Centre site of the Health Care Corporation of St. John's. This role includes a commitment by the Health Sciences Library to support education, clinical practice and research in health care through the teaching of information skills. The Library also supports the information needs of health care professionals throughout the province of Newfoundland and Labrador. Memorial University is the largest university in Atlantic Canada. QUALIFICATIONS: The Health Sciences Library is seeking an energetic, outgoing and service- oriented individual with an interest in health sciences librarianship. A degree from an ALA accredited graduate programme is required. Experience in the provision of reference services and bibliographic instruction within an academic or health sciences environment is essential. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are mandatory. Familiarity with the use of electronic information resources, World Wide Web applications and computer applications are highly desirable. BENEFITS: An appointment at the rank of Librarian I or II is anticipated. The salary ranges for Librarian I and II positions as of September 1, 2003 are $37,667 to $47,950 and $43,543 to $58,233 respectively.
