Data Reference Librarian

The University of Windsor's Leddy Library invites applications for a
tenure-track Data Reference Librarian position, commencing September 1st,
2002.  Rank will be commensurate with experience.  This position is subject

The Leddy Library is an active partner in teaching and research at the
University.  As such, we seek an innovative, dynamic professional with key
leadership skills to provide proactive support and services to our user
communities. The successful candidate will contribute to the development of
and access to collections and services in the areas of geospatial data,
maps, statistical microdata and government documents.  Responsibilities
also include the provision of general and specialized reference services.
The successful candidate will possess the initiative, creativity and
communication skills to develop, promote and deliver effective
bibliographic and data literacy programs for faculty, staff, and students.
The incumbent will stay abreast of new technologies and innovations in the
data and government information fields.  Reporting to the Head, Reference
Services, the successful candidate will be joining a dynamic team and will
be expected to contribute to the overall planning and management of library
services, as well as to provincial/national consortial activities.

An ALA-accredited MLS (or equivalent) is required.  Experience or
educational background in GIS, maps, statistical microdata, and government
documents is essential.  A knowledge of cartographic methods and trends,
and an ability to use GIS, in particular ArcView/ArcInfo, is highly
desirable. Familiarity with the management of numeric and traditional
databases is preferred.  The successful candidate will be knowledgeable of
quantitative methods of data collection, extraction, analysis and use. A
familiarity with statistical packages such as  SPSS is required. The
successful candidate must have excellent teaching and communication skills,
possess demonstrated skill in the use of Web authoring tools and be
familiar with metadata schemes, e.g. DDI, Dublin Core, CODOC, MARC, AACR2.
A knowledge of French and other languages is desirable.
