Launch of the "Courts of Nova Scotia" Website

Anyone who has developed a website for their organization will know how much
work is involved building the site from scratch. It takes many hours of
planning and research before ideas take shape and mature into the final
product. The resulting web site is often very different from the initial

Designing the website for the Nova Scotia Judiciary was no different. The
project was complex because of the vast amount of information to be
assimilated and screened before the early prototypes emerged. The Committee
first met in March, 2000 and now, 26 months later, "The Courts of Nova
Scotia" website is accessible on the internet at

The "Courts of Nova Scotia" website has information on all Nova Scotia
Courts - the Court of Appeal, the Supreme Court and the Provincial Courts
including Small Claims, Probate and Bankruptcy Courts. Within the individual
sections you will find information such as the names of the judges, the
locations of the Courts, the applicable Rules and Forms and frequently asked

One click from the home page will open up "General Court Information" - a
section that we expect will be particularly useful. Visitors will find
information on the history of the courts, judicial independence and
impartiality, self-representation, jury duty, costs and fees and a glossary
of legal terms. The site will soon expand to include information of specific
interest to members of the bar and school students.

As with many web sites, ours is a work in progress. The site will continue
to develop. Sections such as the "Classroom Project", designed to help
students learn about the operation of the courts, is but part of a larger
initiative intended to inform and educate the general public and students
about our legal system.

We would welcome your comments and suggestions on how to enhance this site
for the benefit of all users.
