The Capital Health District is the largest, integrated academic health district in Atlantic Canada serving 395,000 residents and providing adult tertiary care for the rest of Nova Scotia and neighboring provinces. Over 8,600 health care employees and 760 medical staff in seven hospitals, one multi-service centre and several district-wide health programs deliver a wide variety of services including ambulatory care, tertiary care and community-based programs such as mental health and home care. A key partner is the Dalhousie Medical School at Dalhousie University. There are three major employers operating under the banner of the Capital District Health Authority: the Queen Elizabeth II Health Sciences Centre, Halifax NS, The Nova Scotia Hospital, Dartmouth NS and the hospitals and services of the former Central Regional Health Board.

The Manager of Library Services provides a leadership role in facilitating access to integrated knowledge and information resources in support of patient care management, research and education. The incumbent is responsible for the effective management of staff and resources of all sites in Capital Health for Health Science Library and Information Services. Reporting to the Director, Medical Education Services, the Manager of Library Services is responsible for liason with key stakeholders/clients within the District to develop a comprehensive library service that is integrated with the needs of evidence-based medicine, education and research.

Qualifications:

  • Masters Degree in Library and Information science with a course in Health Sciences Librarianship from an accredited university is required
  • Management education or training is an asset
  • Minimum of five years progressively responsible experience in a medical or Health Sciences Library with supervisory and management responsibilities
  • Excellent working knowledge of health science literature and databases, research methodologies, Copyright Law, and information needs of regional hospitals and academic health centers
  • Well-developed research, teaching, interpersonal, problem-solving and project management skills are essential
  • Demonstrated strong managerial and organizational skills with emphasis on leadership and decision-making skills
  • Must be familiar with budget administration and health planning.
