VIRTUAL REFERENCE SERVICES : What, Why and How? (Teleconferences)
Halifax site sponsored by the Nova Scotia Provincial Library
**************************************************

What are virtual reference services? Why offer these services? How do we provide these services? The increase in the number of home computers has resulted in a decline in the number of patrons using library services, including reference services. In response to this many libraries are looking to offer more services over the Internet. To gain insight into virtual reference services the Nova Scotia Provincial Library invites you to attend the following teleconferences broadcast from the College of DuPage, Illinois, entitled: VIRTUAL REFERENCE SERVICES : What, Why and How? , February 8 and April 19, 2002, from 1-3 pm AST. This two-part series will focus on the practical aspects of moving face-to-face reference services to a virtual environment. During the first session panelists will review the current state of reference services in today's libraries and explore future directions. The second session will focus on the practical considerations involved in moving from a "real" to a "virtual" environment. During this session successful implementations of virtual reference services from various libraries will be showcased. For more information on these teleconferences visit the following website: http://www.cod.edu/teleconf/virtual/ Please join us at the Nova Scotia Provincial Library for both of these broadcasts.
