Cataloguing Coordinator, Sexton Design & Technology Library

The Sexton Design & Technology Library (previously DalTech Library) invites
applications for the contract position of Cataloguing Coordinator.

Responsibilities:
Coordinates the work of a team of staff and students who catalogue books,
serials and electronic publications. Performs original and complex
cataloguing for a variety of formats and subjects. Works closely with the
Sexton Library Head of Serials to guarantee high quality access to the
print and electronic serials collections. Collaborates with colleagues in
other Dalhousie Libraries to provide the best access to Dalhousie
resources. Works regular reference desk shifts.

Sexton Library is a participating member of the Novanet Consortium which
uses the GEAC Advance library management system. The Cataloguing
Coordinator represents the Library on the Novanet Cataloguing Committee and
is responsible for compliance with Novanet conventions.
The Cataloguing Coordinator reports to the Assistant Design & Technology
Librarian and is a member of the Sexton Library Managers' Group.

Required Qualifications:
MLS/MLIS from an ALA accredited program or equivalent. Experience
cataloguing books, serials and other material, both print and electronic
formats. Excellent communication and analytical skills, including the
ability to work in a team setting. Solid facility with personal computers,
information retrieval software and network navigation tools.

Desirable Qualifications:
Experience with GEAC Advance. Experience in an academic or special library.
Background in architecture or engineering.

Availability:
The position is available October 9, 2001. Appointment will be for an eight
month term and the salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.
