        Term Full-time position - July 23, 2001 to May 17, 2002

Halifax Regional Library invites INTERNAL and EXTERNAL applications for the
term full-time position of Librarian 2.  This position is located in the
Youth Services Department of the Spring Garden Road Memorial Public Library,
5381 Spring Garden Road, Halifax, N.S.  This is a full-time term position of
35 hours per week for the period approximately July 23, 2001 to May 17,
2002.  Hours of work include evenings and weekends.

Major Responsibilities:

*       Under the direction of the Adult and Youth Services Manager, this
position carries out professional duties associated with information
services, collection development and programming to ensure the highest
quality service delivery to young people and their caregivers.
*       Supervises Youth Services staff assigned to programming and the
Information desk.
*       Participates in developing and implementing regional youth and
children=s programming.
*       Participates in youth services collection development as
appropriate.
*       Assists with planning and implementing staff training and
development programs for the department.
*       Assists Adult and Youth Services Manager in reviewing the operation
of the Department to ensure relevance to user needs.
*       Assists Adult and Youth Services Manager in developing service
priorities.
*       Acts in the absence of the Adult and Youth Services Manager.
*       In cooperation with the Adult and Youth Services Manager selects,
trains and evaluates staff as appropriate.
*       Participates in Regional Committees.
*       Operates within designated budgets.
*       Assists with development and implementation of marketing plans (eg.
writes Guide copy, speaks to groups, liaises with media and community
groups).

*       MLIS degree from an accredited library school.

understanding of the purpose of library services.

        Accountability/Dependability - Accepts responsibility for actions
and results.

        Planning and Organizational Skills - Must have demonstrated ability
to effectively plan and organize work.

        Resource Management - Ability to manage resources consistent with
organizational and department objectives.

        Service Attitude - Must have an understanding of what is required to
provide the highest quality service.

        Respect for Diversity - Respects the diverse opinions and beliefs of
library users and co-workers.  Appreciates the need to serve and reflect the
various communities within the catchment area of the Spring Garden Road
Memorial Public Library.

        This is a unionized position.

Hours of Work:                                  35 hours per week

Bi-Weekly Salary:                                       $1,347.85 -
$1,546.72 (5 steps)
Based on annual salary - $35,178.89 - $40,369.39

located in the at the Tantallon Public Library, The Hubley Centre, 10353 St.
Margaret=s Bay Road (#3 Hwy), Hubbards.   The Librarian 2 will also provide
expertise at the J.D. Shatford Public Library as required.

Major Responsibilities:

*       Under the direction of the Branch Manager, this position carries out
professional duties associated with information services, collection
development and programming to ensure the highest quality service delivery.
*       Supervises staff assigned to programming and the Information desk.
*       Participates in youth services collection development as
appropriate.
*       Assists with planning and implementing staff training and

*       Assists Branch Manager in reviewing Branch operations to ensure
