Memorial University of Newfoundland at Corner Brook invites applications
for an 8 month term appointment in the University Libraries beginning

QUALIFICATIONS

The Ferriss Hodgett Library is seeking an energetic, outgoing individual
with a commitment to academic librarianship and the flexibility to enjoy a
changing environment of practice.  The successful candidate will have an
ALA accredited graduate degree and the ability to communicate effectively
in both written and oral modes.  Familiarity with CD-ROM databases,
internet communication applications, online database searching and
microcomputer applications are highly desirable.

DESCRIPTION

The position involves work at the reference desk and some responsibility
for providing bibliographic instruction.  Some evening and weekend work
may be required, and there will be an opportunity to participate in
collection development.  The subject areas assumed will depend upon the
qualifications of the successful candidate, who will join a library system
with a large, progressive and professionally active group of librarians
with a strong orientation toward user services.

The Ferriss Hodgett Library is a member of a highly centralised library
system serving Memorial University of Newfoundland.  It is the largest
university in Atlantic Canada and, as the province's only university, it
plays an integral role in the educational and cultural life of
Newfoundland and Lbarador.  Sir Wilfred Grenfell College is a small
(1,100) liberal arts and science institution and a campus of Memorial
University of Newfoundland, offering four-year bachelor's degrees in arts
(English, environmental studies, historical studies, humanities,
psychology and social/cultural studies), science (environmental science)
and nursing.

The college is located in the city of Corner Brook on Newfoundland's west
coast.  Corner Brook (population 22,000) is a very safe, friendly city
with excellent recreational and cultural facilities, and overlooks the Bay
of Islands, affording a spectacular view of the Blomidon Mountains.  The
city is situated some 80 kilometres from Gros Morne National Park and 10
kilometres from the Marble Mountain downhill ski resort.

The successful applicant will help to provide information and
bibliographic aid to partons of the Library.  The reference desk assists
students, faculty, staff and the general public with over 3,000 reference
queries annually.  As well, the Library's professional staff conduct
classes in library research, mediate online searches, and maintain a
collection of some 90,000 volumes.

BENEFITS

This position will be filled at the Librarian I level. The Salary range
for Librarian I is currently $34,650 - $44,107, as of September 1, 2001.
This appointment is subject to budgetary approval.
