Subject: Stephen Abram FIS Alumni Jubilee Award Winner for 2001

It is my pleasure to announce that Stephen Abram is the winner of the
Alumni Jubilee Award for 2001 from the Faculty of Information Studies
Alumni Association, University of Toronto.

You can view a brief biography of Stephen at:

Those who nominated Stephen described him as follows:

"Everything he has done since graduation from the Faculty has been directed
at supporting information professionals individually and collectively and
encouraging us to look forward a role model extraordinaire. As you can
see from the enclosed biography Stephen has taken positions and evolved
them far beyond the traditional realms of librarianship.... We wish to
acknowledge his years of tireless work with many professional organizations
CASLIS, CLA, SLA, ITAC and TERLA , and most recently OLA as
Vice-President / President Elect. Revitalizing organizations, developing
programs and networking at social events are some of the ways he has shared
his expertise with other librarians in a meaningful way. Open a
professional journal and you are bound to find a contribution from Stephen,
usually a thoughtful, sometimes provocative piece pushing us to think
“outside the box” and in future directions. A regular speaker at many of
the largest conferences in the information industry, he commands respect
within and outside our profession.... In summary, he makes us all proud to
be librarians!"
