SPACE STILL AVAILABLE FOR SUMMER SCHOOL COURSE
The School of Library and Information Studies, Dalhousie University is
pleased to announce an opportunity this spring for librarians to upgrade
their reference skills. The course, MANAGING INFORMATION SERVICES, is
also open to all students.
This course builds on the School's basic reference course and allows the
participants the opportunity for skills development in such areas as
reference interviewing and online searching. It also examines readers'
advisory and community information services. Through a major project,
provision is made for students to apply management theory to a reference
environment.
The course will be taught by Dr. Donald Wicks, Assistant Professor, School
of Library and Information Studies, Dalhousie University. Over the
past two years, Dr. Wicks has taught courses in Information Literacy,
Information Sources and Retrieval, Organizational Management and Strategy,
Information Sources in the Humanities/Social Sciences, Collections
Management, Users and Services, and Legal Literature and Librarianship.
The course will be offered through the Dalhousie University 1999 Summer
School. It will run from May 10th to June 2nd. and classes will meet
Monday through Thursday from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The deadline for
registration and payment of fees is May 5th.
