Position Information
Position Title: IT and Emerging Technologies Librarian        
Department: Library, Atlantic School of Theology, Halifax, Nova Scotia

Position Description:         
The IT and Emerging Technologies Librarian will implement and maintain the Libraries’ information systems and electronic resources; will liaise with library information systems vendors, and will liaise with affiliated Saint Mary’s University Information Technology Services, as needed. The IT and Emerging Technologies librarian will also provide general and specialized campus wide IT services; inventory, setup, and maintain campus computers; and will serve on appropriate library and university committees.

Other duties will include: identifying initiatives and projects that enhance and further develop and improve campus online services and resources; engage in usability testing and assessment of Library and university website; assist with implementation and maintenance of technology throughout campus; collaborate with university staff to create new and support existing platforms for library and campus instruction, including tutorials, online chat, streaming media, and course management systems.

Salary and Rank: Hiring rank and salary dependent on work and educational experience.

Required Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:         
•        American Library Association (ALA) accredited M.L.S., M.L.I.S preferred
•        Demonstrated knowledge of current and emerging library systems and electronic information services and resources (including link resolvers, OPACs, discovery layers, and web proxy servers)
•        Demonstrated familiarity with Integrated Library Systems (ILS) used for cataloging and classification, serials, circulation, acquisitions and public access catalogs.
•        Demonstrated ability to concurrently manage multiple projects, administer systems, troubleshoot computing problems, plan and manage change in the Library's computing environment and act as liaison with other information technology professionals.
•        Demonstrated knowledge of computer hardware, operating systems, software, and network architecture
•        Demonstrated ability managing and maintaining computer systems including routine repairs and upgrades for both software and hardware
•        Demonstrated skill installing and troubleshooting desktops, laptops and peripherals.
•        Demonstrated knowledge of Internet technologies and learning technologies (including Web, course management systems, social media)
•        Word processing, database, and spreadsheet skills
•        Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with faculty, students, and colleagues
•        Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
•        Demonstrated ability for self-directed learning
•        Commitment to public service

Preferred Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:         
•        2 years relevant work or educational experience
•        A+ certification or equivalent experience
•        Knowledge of ALEPH and other Ex Libris products
•        Knowledge of WorldCat Local discovery layer and Knowledge Base
•        Knowledge of OCLC EZproxy
•        Knowledge of Institutional Repositories (including DSpace, ContentDM or other platforms)
•        Skill working with content management systems and database-driven websites and applications
•        Skill in web design using HTML, XHTML, and CSS
•        Knowledge of internet multimedia technologies and digital media industry standards (Flash, Silverlight, streaming media, HTML)
•        Involvement or willingness to become involved in appropriate professional organizations
•        Demonstrated potential for engagement in scholarly activities

University: Located in an urban community of 300,000 residents, the Atlantic School of theology is one of five universities in the historic port city of Halifax. An ecumenical school of theology and Christian ministry, the Atlantic School of Theology was founded in 1971 by institutions of the three founding parties: the Divinity Faculty of the University of King’s College (Anglican Church of Canada), Holy Heart Theological Seminary (The Roman Catholic Episcopal Corporation of Halifax) and Pine Hill Divinity Hall (United Church of Canada).
The School is accredited by the Association of Theological Schools in the United States and Canada and offers Master of Divinity and Master of Arts (Theology and Religious Studies) degrees. The Master of Arts (Theology and Religious Studies) degree is offered in conjunction with Saint Mary's University. A Graduate Certificate Program in Theological Studies, an Adult Education Certificate in Theological Studies, and a Diploma in Youth Ministry are available on campus and on-line.
