POSITION SUMMARY
The Library Technician, Visual Resources Collection, is responsible for assisting in the delivery of Visual Resources services in amulti-task oriented environment. The Library Technician performs duties related to cataloguing of images and DVDs, digitization of images, circulation, and general library instruction. The Library Technician provides instruction in the use of the Visual Resources Collection, and ensures the implementation and application of adequate health and safety policies and practices where necessary. The Library Technician supervises the area in the Visual Resources Librarian’s absence.
SPECIFICATIONS
A Librarian Technician diploma, an undergraduate degree, and a minimum of one year of relevant employment experience in a library required. Preference will be given to applicants with a background in fine art, media art, or art history.
The following skills are required:
· Proficiency in database, word processing, and image editing software applications. .
· Knowledge of cataloguing standards and practices, preferably the cataloguing of images and media.
· Experience with digital imaging technology, including photography, scanning and image editing. Must have working knowledge of Photoshop.
· Research skills using print and online resources.
· Experience using online library applications, catalogues, and web based media. Experience with online course management software is an asset.
Well developed interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively are essential to this position.
The Library Technician works in a dynamic environment and must be able to balance attention to detail with frequent interruptions.
