You might find this paper interesting. It was published in the 2010 conference proceedings of the International Association of Aquatic and Marine Science Libraries and Information Centers. The authors are Amy Butros and Sally Taylor and it's titled:

Managing information: evaluating and selecting citation management software, a look at EndNote, RefWorks, Mendeley and Zotero.

It does a good job of comparing and contrasting these 4 tools, at least.

Hello!

I am trying to find a nice, easy to manage way to for our healthcare staff to keep track of their favorite articles, annotate them, and have them easily searchable.  While the citation part of many of these programs is nice, that’s not what they are looking for – they aren’t necessarily writing papers and need to format bibliographies. They are just looking for a way to organize and keep at their finger tips their amassed knowledge.

I’ve just (like five minutes ago) downloaded Mendeley and registered for CiteULike (Zotero I’m ruling out because of technical issues at my organization). On a very first blush I find I really, really like Mendeley, it’s easy to use the annotation features are lovely. I’ve not explored the social part of it (and wonder how with copyright the sharing part of it works) but it looks like it might be a fine tool for collaboration with groups across distance. I understand there are add-ins if people want to use them for formatting bibliographies.

Have I fallen in love too fast? I am wondering what experiences of Mendeley there are out there, its shortcomings, how you’ve evaluated it or similar products. Is there a better product or are they all more or less comparable, and it then just comes down to personal taste?
