further growth in this area, York University Libraries are seeking an
innovative and energetic librarian for the position of Digital Services
Librarian in Bibliographic Services. The Digital Services Librarian will
join a dynamic and growing team of digital professionals including the
Digital Humanities Librarian, Digital Initiatives Librarian, Digital
Projects and Outreach Archivist, Web Librarian, E-Learning Librarian and GIS
Librarian.  This is an 18-month contractually limited appointment with the
possibility of extension.  The Digital Services Librarian will play an
integral role in supporting and developing digital initiatives within York
University Libraries. Demonstrating excellent project management skills, the
successful candidate will support the creation of digital collections at
York University by collaborating with Archives and Special Collections,
Library Computing Services and the Digital Initiatives Advisory Group to
promote, plan, implement, support, and evaluate digital projects within the
Libraries.  Associated responsibilities may also involve the hiring,
training, and supervision of supporting staff. A significant component of
this position involves advocating for and supporting the Library’s scholarly
communications initiatives including serving on the Scholarly Communications
Committee, liaising with the York community, administering the institutional
repository YorkSpace, and supporting the digital journal hosting program
York Digital Journals. Comfort with troubleshooting software challenges and
providing project-related technical support will be required. Collaborating
with colleagues, the incumbent will ensure that appropriate digital and
metadata standards and procedures are established and followed. The Digital
Services Librarian will be a member of the Digital Initiatives Advisory
Group.  Some original and complex copy cataloguing may be required.

Qualifications: 
* MLS (or recognized equivalent) from an ALA-accredited program;
* experience planning and implementing digitization projects or other
complex digital library projects; 
* demonstrated experience with SGML/XML, metadata standards and schema;  
* demonstrated initiative, service-oriented attitude, and project management
skills; 
* knowledge of emerging trends in digital collections, scholarly
communications, and in library and information technologies; 
* excellent software troubleshooting abilities and comfort with UNIX
environments;
* past programming experience an asset;
* excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to work
independently and in collaboration with others;
* flexible attitude and ability to adapt to a changing environment; ability
to balance multiple responsibilities; demonstrated time management skills;
* willingness to undertake library and university committee
responsibilities, professional development, research and scholarship.


This is an 18- month contractually limited appointment with the designation
of Adjunct Librarian and appropriate for a librarian with up to nine years
post-MLS experience.  The position is available from March 1, 2012.  
Librarians at York University have academic status and are members of the
York University Faculty Association bargaining unit (http://www.yufa.org/).
Salary is commensurate with qualifications. All York University positions
are subject to budgetary approval.
