Duties:
Under the general direction of the Manager, Systems & Collections
Access, the Coordinator, Technology Initiatives works with the Systems
Team at Nova Scotia Provincial Library and a consortium of regional
public libraries, and other client libraries, to lead and/or facilitate
the implementation of services, programs and projects related to library
technology among our regional public library partners, the broader Nova
Scotia library community and other government departments.
The Coordinator works to ensure our library clients have access to
efficient and cost-effective library technologies, including the
integrated library system (ILS), online public access catalogue (OPAC)
and internet connectivity. The Coordinator engages in research, program
development, training and implementation related to new and existing
technologies for member libraries. The Coordinator develops, implements,
and documents custom solutions that extend and enhance the functionality
of the OPAC, the ILS, and other library technologies. The Coordinator
makes recommendations and develops policies, procedures and standards
related to automated library services.
After hours support, for weekends (as part of rotation) and occasional
evenings, is required.
Qualifications:
Your application must clearly demonstrate how you meet the following
requirements: Bachelor’s Degree plus post-graduate degree in Library
Science plus 5 years professional library experience. Knowledge of
UNIX/Linux, CSS, JavaScript, and PERL. Demonstrated experience with
metadata coding. Demonstrated, in-depth experience in the use of ILS
(SirsiDynix Unicorn or Symphony systems preferred). Ability to develop
effective work processes, assess work priorities, and work
independently. Excellent analytical, trouble-shooting and problem
solving skills. Demonstrated ability to interact effectively and work
cooperatively and collaboratively with vendor and library staff,
individually and in group situations. Ability to learn new technologies
and stay current with technological developments in libraries. Public
library experience is an asset.

Salary Range: $53,980 to $65,618
