FAB is the largest network of the International Association of
Bioethics. Launched in 1992, FAB engages with issues in health care and
the biosciences from feminist viewpoints and has members in countries in
five continents. FAB is dedicated to the interests of women as patients,
citizens, parents, practitioners and carers. We seek equity for women in
all of their roles. We promote diversity and oppose all forms of
oppression.
The FAB Congress is held biennially in conjunction with the World
Congress of Bioethics. In 2010, the 8^th FAB Congress, together with the
10^th World Congress of Bioethics
(http://www.bioethics-singapore.org/wcb2010/), will be hosted by the
Bioethics Advisory Committee (http://www.bioethics-singapore.org/) in
Singapore.
The principal venue for the FAB 2010 Congress, the Peninsula Excelsior
Hotel http://www.ytchotels.com.sg/sp-ytcexcel/index.aspx?page=home, is
located in the heart of town, adjacent to Fort Canning Park, the
historic Boat Quay, and the financial district. The hotel is one
kilometer from the Esplanade Theatres on the Bay, and the Suntec
Convention Centre where FAB shares a crossover day on 28^th July with
the 10^th World Congress Opening.
The theme of the 2010 FAB Congress is "Mobilities and Inequalities. This
is a meeting not to be missed by scholars and activists with interests
in bioethics, women, and health. We particularly encourage participation
by more junior scholars, and by those engaged primarily in policy and
practice as well as academics. _Link to Programme will be up soon._
The Congress Dinner on 27 July will be hosted by women’s organizations
in Singapore, and there will be opportunity to sign up for this during
the Congress.* *
Singapore is easy to get to, being well served by many major airlines.
It is also an ideal stepping off point for exploring other parts of
South-East Asia, such as Bali, Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, Borneo, and
the Philippines. Malaysia is only a bus or train ride across a causeway.
Since English is the language of the education system and of government,
pretty much everyone speaks it. The Changi International Airport is
well-served by ground transportation, and is less than 30 minutes from
the Congress venue. For detailed information on airport transfers, see
