DIGITAL PROJECTS LIBRARIAN
The Electronic Text Centre (ETC) in the University of New Brunswick
Libraries welcomes applications for the position of Digital Projects
Librarian, which is expected to be filled at the rank of Librarian I/
II. This position is a one-year term appointment.
With a 13-year history of achievement, the ETC has been recognized as
a regional and national leader in digital projects, electronic
publishing, and research computing support. The ETC comprises nine FTE
working in digital project development, journal production, imaging,
and graphic design; an additional varying number of student assistants
complement the core staff . Working in this context, the Digital
Projects Librarian will manage digital initiatives originating in or
facilitated by the ETC: overseeing their development; ensuring their
timely delivery; coordinating their ongoing enhancement and
maintenance; and helping plan their long-term preservation. The
incumbent will work diligently to integrate the Libraries’ digital
initiatives in appropriate contexts, both library-wide (with a strong
emphasis on cooperation with Special Collections and Systems) and
university-wide.
General Responsibilities
· Provides leadership in implementation of Libraries’ digital
initiatives
· Coordinates inter-departmental work as appropriate to
identify, develop and deliver projects (e.g., building teams with help
from Systems; Cataloguing; Archives and Special Collections; liaison
librarians; etc.)
· Keeps up to date with trends and standards in all aspects of
digital librarianship, including rights management / IP issues, open
access, preservation, archiving, and broad IT currents
· Works with the ETC Director:
o in developing policy to support digital research repositories and
a Virtual Research Environment (VRE) model
o in assessing UNB faculty needs and promoting research-related
projects to faculty
o in identification of and application to various grants
· Directs the ETC in limited capacity, in the Director’s absence
QUALIFICATIONS
Required: a Masters degree from an ALA accredited institution; a
minimum of three years’ relevant experience; strong organizational
and project management skills; excellent written and oral
communication skills; demonstrated ability to work collaboratively on
projects across a wide range of departments and for varying audiences;
experience working with digital special collections and a strong
commitment to service..
Desired: Familiarity with digital content and data standards,
intellectual property issues, and trends in digital preservation; and
experience with policy writing.
