Information Services Librarian

The Ward Chipman Library at the University of New Brunswick (Saint John) seeks an Information Services Librarian to coordinate library resources in support of the New Brunswick Distributed Medical Education Program in conjunction with Dalhousie University Libraries. This position is subject to budgetary approval. This is a two year term position (renewable) which is expected to be filled at the rank of Librarian II.

The incumbent will develop and present integrated instructional sessions as part of the curriculum in medicine; will teach classes on database searching and use of library resources; create and update instructional materials; make presentations; and develop online classes and orientations. It needs to be understood that the Dalhousie medical curriculum places the emphasis on selfdirected learning, e-learning, and gaming learning as part of the case based instructions and minimal lecture content. This program will require the incumbent to take a very active leadership role in ensuring that communications among the various partners building strong and positive relationships. The incumbent will be a key component of effective program delivery.

In addition this librarian will participate in the outreach and reference consultation activities of the library, including designated liaison responsibilities, and will serve on various library committees, teams, and task forces.

Qualifications: The successful candidate will have a Masters degree from an accredited library and information program, with at least 2 years of relevant library experience within a health sciences library environment. An undergraduate background in science or applied health would be an asset. Further, the candidate will have excellent communications skills and an in-depth knowledge of print and electronic medical information resources. Demonstrated instruction experience is required, as is the ability to work within a collaborative environment.

The Saint John campus of the University of New Brunswick, located in Tucker Park overlooking the beautiful Kennebacasis River Valley, is an expending campus which serves a population of approximately 2500 students. The Library, with a staff of 5 librarians and 13 support staff, is part of a combined unit, Information Services & Systems, which also includes Instructional Technology and Integrated Technology Services.
