MASTERING WEB SEARCHING - web-based course
Monday February 8 to Sunday March 28, 2010

What are advanced search techniques? Which Web
search engines are the best? What tool should be
used for what purpose? How are they best
used? This course will help build skills in
using the main tools and applying web search
strategies. On completion of this course, students will be able to:
? Locate major resources by using topic-oriented
tools including social bookmarking sources.
? Work with words to construct more effective queries.
? Skillfully use the syntax and special features
of the leading search engines, Google, Bing, and
Yahoo. Graduates of the course will be power Google searchers.
? Consider strategies for accessing the Invisible Web.
? Employ alternative engines such as
meta-searchers, verticals, visual search and
others as part of a search strategy.
? Apply various strategies to get much better results.
This course is completely updated for each
session to include the latest features and rising
stars among search tools. Students receive
personal and direct support from the instructor.
An optional certificate in WEB SEARCH STRATEGIES
is available. To be eligible, students must
complete the weekly assignments and pass an
online exam at the end of the course. Fee: $50
