Countdown to the Big Day: wedding planners as documentary tools for time and
information management

Abstract
Commercially-available wedding planning guides are the focus of Dr. Davies'
current research: how these planners teach brides-to-be to "see" time and
the means provided for managing information throughout the planning process.
This research is being conducted in collaboration with Dr. Pamela McKenzie
at The University of Western Ontario and is a component of a larger project
about the relationship between time and information management.
Speaker Information
Elisabeth Davies is currently Researcher-in-Residence in Dalhousie's School
of Information Management. Dr Davies interest in information management
started with a Library Technician diploma from Nova Scotia Community College
and continued through a master's and doctorate in Library and Information
Science from The University of Western Ontario. She has worked in public,
academic, and special libraries, including a recent stint at the Dalhousie
University Archives and Special Collections. Dr. Davies has taught
graduate-level courses in cataloguing and research methods.
Pam McKenzie is Associate Professor and Assistant Dean, Research at the
Faculty of Information and Media Studies at The University of Western
Ontario. Her research focuses on the ways that individuals in local
settings collaboratively construct information needs, seeking, and use. She
is interested in temporal, textual and interactional aspects of information
practices, in the intersections of information work and caring work, and
in gendered and embodied information practices and spaces.
Lecture is open to the public at "no charge."
