Many of you knew Betsy Armstrong, the former Nova Scotia Provincial Librarian. Betsy passed away this week; I have included her obituary below.

ARMSTRONG (MacDonald), Helen Elizabeth "Betsy"
Died January 13, 2009, in Dartmouth General Hospital. Born May 14, 1948, in New Glasgow, she was a daughter of the late Henry and Jean (Gass) MacDonald. She was educated in New Glasgow, at Mount Allison University and at Dalhousie University where she received her degree in Library Science. Betsy worked as a librarian in Woodstock and Fredericton, N.B. for five years, and in the Nova Scotia Provincial Library for 27 years. During this time period she built up a number of good work relationships and friendships which she greatly cherished. Many thanks to the nursing staff on 3 East at Dartmouth General for the fine nursing care given to Betsy. Betsy is survived by her husband, Bob; children, Bruce and Heather, and by her brother, Ian and his wife Anne. There will be visitation on Friday, January 16, from 7-9 p.m. in A.L. Mattatall Funeral Home, 217 Portland St. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 17, at 1:30 p.m. in St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, School Street, Dartmouth, with Rev. P.A. "Sandy" McDonald officiating. There will be a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may by made to Feed Nova Scotia, Canadian Cancer Society, or to a charity of choice.
