Duties: The incumbent is responsible for the administration of the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy (FOIPOP) process and for other information access and privacy (IAP) processes for the Department of Justice. S/he will manage the complete process as outlined in the FOIPOP Act, will make recommendations on FOIPOP applications and will represent the department on requests for reviews of departmental decisions by the Act's Review Officer. S/he will also provide expertise, facilitation and training services to Justice clients on the FOIPOP Act, Personal Information International Disclosure Protection Act (PIIDPA), and such IAP processes as privacy impact assessments (PIAs), research agreements, information sharing agreements, etc. As part of an integrated policy and information management environment s/he will implement, monitor and maintain the daily operation of FOIPOP and IAP processes within the Department of Justice.
As a secondary role, and where time permits, this position will also assist the Chief and Associate Chief Information Access and Privacy Officers with their duties associated with government-wide IAP/FOIPOP matters.
Qualifications: Bachelors Degree in arts, law or public administration plus 3-5 years of public sector experience in a policy development environment or equivalent combination of education and experience; working knowledge of the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, Personal Information International Disclosure Protection Act and best practices in IAP and information management; demonstrated ability with PC-based applications (i.e. GroupWise, PowerPoint, WordPerfect); demonstrated superior written and oral skills; strong judgement and analytical capacity; demonstrated ability to function both as a team member and independently. Experience and/or training in negotiation and mediation, a proven track record in the delivery of training, workshops and presentations, and bilingualism (French) are considered assets.
