Dear colleagues, MLIS alumni and friends of SIM,
Vivian Howard, newly appointed to a tenure-stream position in the School
of Information Management, has also accepted a three year administrative
appointment in the Faculty of Management as Director of the Bachelor of
Management program. Professor Howard held an interim appointment as
Director of this unique undergraduate program during the past academic
year. She has been noted for her highly successful leadership of the
redevelopment of the four-year program to include a series of majors,
including one in Knowledge Management.
This administrative appointment means that Professor Howard will have a
reduced teaching load. Happily for SIM and our MLIS students, she will
be teaching her regular MLIS courses in Collections Management and
Services and Resources for Young Adults in the 2008-09 academic year.
The appointment reflects Professor Howards significant success as a
teacher of both undergraduates and graduate students, in addition to her
administrative skills and her capacity for "getting things done."
In addition to her role as an academic Director, Professor Howard has
also been appointed to the Executive Committee developing and launching
Dalhousie's new College of Sustainability. Four of Dalhousie's Faculties
are engaged in this interdisciplinary endeavour and information is
available at
http://senate.dal.ca/Files/meeting_package/DCS_-_Proposal_Summary.pdf
Finally, SIM was especially pleased when Professor Howard won an
Academic Leadership Award at the recent Faculty of Management strategic
retreat.
Please join me in congratulating Vivian on these achievements and
recognitions!
All best wishes,
Fiona B.
