Hello,
Thank you very much to all of you who responded to my question on DVD
protection/security.
I am enclosing a collation of comments received for those who might be
interested.
Here is what we have decided to do at the Bibliothèque Champlain of the
Université de Moncton :
To protect the integrity of the DVD, to protect the DVD readers, to
protect the environment, to save time and money, to facilitate access
and because we consider that most of our DVDs are of academic interest
and don't need the same protection as popular movies, we decided to keep
our DVDs freely accessible in the stacks, putting a tattle-tape strip
inside the DVD container only.
Since we had already bought a few locked cases, we decided also to
protect in plastic locked cases some of our most precious DVDs
(expensive or of local interest). This way all our DVDs are accessible
in the stacks.
We will monitor the collection every year and change our procedure if
needed.

Hello,
We are adding more and more DVDs to our collection
and are exploring ways to secure them.
We currently apply circular tattle-tapes to our CD-ROMs
and we put our musical CDs in protective plastic cases.
Both are freely accessible in the library.
We'd be interested to know if, and how, other libraries are protecting
their DVDs, using circular tattle-tapes, protective cases, or by storing
the disk
behind the circulation desk or in another non accessible place.
We are looking at the practical and financial aspects,
but we are also concerned with the environmental impact of our choice.
Any comment or information would be greatly appreciated.
(You can respond to me directly)
Thank you very much,
Charlotte Dionne
