Reposting: Library Technician: (Serials Manager) ½ to Ύ time, Contract
position
September December 2007 (15 weeks) and January April 2008 (16 weeks)
Under the direction of the Library Director and Instruction Librarian, the
Library Technician will perform complex paraprofessional duties in the
technical and public service areas of the library. The library technician will
manage the serials and the reserve reading collections, will provide public
access and reference services, and will perform document delivery /
interlibrary loan tasks, as well as other assigned work as needed.
Position Requirements and Qualifications
Required Skills:
Familiarity with standard library operations and procedures.
Knowledge of contemporary cataloguing standards and practices.
A strong public service orientation.
The ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a
team.
Working knowledge of print and electronic information resources.
Organizational skills, interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate
effectively are essential to this position.
This position requires constant attention to detail and accuracy. These
standards must be maintained in an environment of frequent interruptions.
Qualifications:
Library Technician Diploma training, Bachelors Degree, or equivalent in
education and experience. Completed diploma or degree preferred, but relevant
education in-process acceptable.
Demonstrated, relevant work experience.
Demonstrated knowledge of relevant subject disciplines an asset.
This position is ideal for a recent graduate or part-time student seeking to
gain experience in a small academic library.
Conditions: This is a ½ to Ύ time, contract position:
Up to 32 hours per week:
Aug. 27-Dec. 14 2007 (15 weeks) and Jan. 7 Apr. 25, 2008 (16 weeks)
Hours will include night and weekend shifts.
Number of hours/week to be negotiated.
Rate of Pay: $11.00/hour plus 4% vacation pay.
