THE WEEK OF APRIL 16th
Monday, Apr. 16, 8-9pm ET (5-6am, PT)
The Board Chair and the CEO: Shared Leadership for Board Development
with Ken Haycock - 1 hour AUDIO CONFERENCE
Most trustees realize they need training but many only receive a tour and a binder from the CEO and a hearty "welcome aboard" from the Chair.
Powerful, effective library boards are developed over time and a longer term plan for development makes good sense. What do trustees need to know? What are their roles? What are the topics? What are the priorities?
If you truly want a powerful board, you must learn how to develop powerful and knowledgeable trustees. Here is a vision of planning between the Chair of the Board and the CEO that challenges our everyday practice.
Wednesday, Apr. 18, 3-4pm ET (12-1pm, PT)
Designing Effective Questionnaires: What Every Librarian Needs to Know
with Lisa M. Given - 1 hour AUDIO CONFERENCE
This session will explore strategies for effective questionnaire design, including issues related to layout, question selection, and preparation for data analysis. Related topics, such as enhancing response rates and practical tips for data management, will also be discussed. Participants will have the opportunity to critique and revise an existing questionnaire.
Thursday, Apr. 19, 4-5pm ET (1-2pm, PT)
From Plagiarism to Academic Honesty
with Sya VanGeest and Beth McEwan - 1 hour AUDIO CONFERENCE
Plagiarism has long been a temptation for students, and a challenge for educators, but it has been elevated to new heights by the explosion of digital content available so broadly and so easily with today's technology.
We must teach our students the knowledge, skills and values necessary for them to achieve inborn academic honesty. The assignments and information problem solving tasks we use with students must be crafted to prevent cheating and encourage the critical thinking and understanding that lead to real learning.
Using an extensive PowerPoint presentation which you will have permission to alter and use, this session will walk you through intentional teaching about plagiarism, the consequences, and the ways to teach to see evidence of student learning -- not student cheating!
