Notice of Public Lectures
The GIS Centre, the School of Information Management, the College of
Geographic Sciences and the Geomatics Association of Nova Scotia are pleased
to sponsor two lectures on the Tuesday, March 27 by Professors Mike and
Fiona Goodchild from the University of California - Santa Barbara.
Dr. Mike Goodchild, considered to be the #1 researcher in geographic
information systems (GIS) in the World, will be speaking about the "Spatial
Web: Visions for a Geospatial World" (ever wonder what the future of
GoogleEarth will be?). His lecture takes place on Tuesday evening at 6:30
p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in the Potter Family Auditorium in the Rowe Management
Building.
Dr. Fiona Goodchild will speak on the nature of "GIS education for the K-12
Sciences" at 11:30 - 1:00 p.m. in room 1020 of the Rowe Building. Fiona
is the Education Director at the California NanoSystems Institute, UCSB, and
has a long history of work in the fields of educational psychology and
academic learning strategies.

GIS is a significant growth area in research and teaching at Dalhousie, and
we are very pleased and honoured that Professors Mike and Fiona Goodchild
have agreed to speak to the Dalhousie and wider communities and give their
perspectives on the future of GIS and how we can move forward and capitalize
on recent and emerging trends in the field.
