Join us at the Nova Scotia Provincial Library on March 23rd for the
College of DuPage teleconference *Library Transformation: Making it
Happen*. In this program Richard M. Dougherty of Dougherty and
Associates welcomes a panel of noted librarians to discuss library
transformation, not as an abstraction or buzz word, but as something
real with hard, practical things necessary to make it happen. They will
spell out what needs to happen in facilities, budgets, staffing,
management and leadership to make transformation a reality.
Panelists:
Leslie Burger is current President of ALA, the Director of the
Princeton Public Library in Princeton, New Jersey and founder of Library
Development Solutions (LDS). Before joining the Princeton Public
Library, Leslie served as a development consultant at the New Jersey
State Library, served as Executive Director of the Central Jersey
Regional Library Cooperative and was the LSTA Coordinator at the
Connecticut State Library. She is active in the American Library
Association and other library associations.
Lucy Hansen is the Lead Librarian in the South Texas Independent School
District and Biblioteca Las Américas in Mercedes, Texas. She has an
M.L.I.S. from UT-Austin, an M.A. in ESL/German from the University of
Northern Iowa, and has been a Fulbright scholar in applied linguistics.
Among other programs her library sponsors the *VIVA! Peer Tutor Program,
a student-centered project to improve community health literacy by using
MedlinePlus.
Chandra McKenzie is a SUNY Buffalo and Rochester Institute of
Technology alumna with dual Master*s Degrees in Instructional
Technology and Library Science. Ms. McKenzie served as Associate
Director of RIT*s Wallace Library for fourteen years. She was named
Assistant Provost and Director of RIT Libraries in 2001.
Josie Parker has worked in several public library systems. She is
currently Director of the Ann Arbor District Library (Ann Arbor,
Michigan), the president-elect of the Michigan Library Association, and
a board member of the Public Library Association.
Nancy Tessman has been a member of the staff at the Salt Lake City
Public Library since 1976 and has served as Director since 1996. The
award-winning Main Library opened in 2003 and now serves close to 3
million people annually. In 2006, the Salt Lake City Public Library was
recognized as Library Journal's Library of the Year.
