“Organizational transformation through business intelligence solutions”
Public lecture by John Schwarz, CEO of Business Objects

The School of Information Management and the Faculty of Computer Science are
very pleased to present a lecture by John Schwarz, LLD (Dalhousie)
John Schwarz will discuss the opportunity that business intelligence solutions
provide to transforming organizations. Dr Schwarz will provide an overview of
the business intelligence market and through customer examples articulate how
Business Objects enables organizations to become industry best. Thinking into
the future of business intelligence, Dr. Schwarz will discuss how the Web 2.0
phenomenon is changing how organizations want and expect to do business. He
will paint the future of how and where industry and university researchers can
work collaboratively to develop intellectual property and innovative new
business intelligence solutions.
John Schwarz is CEO of Business Objects. Formerly president and chief operating
officer of Symantec Corporation, he was instrumental in the recent successful
combination of Symantec and VERITAS. Prior to Symantec, he spent 25 years at
IBM Corporation. His last position was general manager of IBM's Industry
Solutions unit. Dr Schwarz currently serves as chairman of the Software
Division Board for the Information Technology Association of America. He holds
a diploma in business administration from the University of Toronto and a
degree in computer science from the University of Manitoba. In 2004, he was
awarded an honorary doctorate from Dalhousie University.
