"Health Literacy Skills Can Impact Anyone"
with Michelle Helliwell
________________________
Literacy skills play a complicated but vitally important role in the
health of our patients and our populations. Poor health literacy skills
can impact anyone, but are most keenly felt by those who have trouble
with written information - about 40% of the population. It is estimated
that poor health literacy skills have a huge economic impact on health
care.
This session will provide a brief overview of the links between
literacy and health, and broader health literacy issues. There will be
an overview of how library services working for three district health
authorities in Western Nova Scotia created and delivered a health
literacy program for health care providers, its impact and future.
