While we should all extend a warm welcome to Sara Gladwell, we should
also extend a hearfelt vote of thanks to Sue Sexty for her contribution
over the years. Well done, Sue.

A warm APLA welcome, and thank you, to Sarah Gladwell
<[log in to unmask]> of Saint John Free Public Library who as agreed
to manage the APLA-list. For those of you, among the over 750 APLA-list
subscribers, who do not know the history of the listserv, let me
enlighten you. For those of you who do, and are about to delete this
message, don't until you have accepted my thanks for being such great
list mates and for making my job as manager so much fun, and so simple,
over the years. Sarah is in good hands.
To my knowledge, The APLA-list is the oldest listserv run by a library
association in Canada. We have been on the go since August 1993 when,
thanks to Judy Dunn, then of SLIS, and Aidan Evans, also of Dalhousie we
took our fist steps. There were some shaky moments at the beginning -
remember the loop from hell, the love letters from Russia, and the
Biblical rantings that sometimes found their way to the list, but you
hung in there and kept the list alive? If you don't remember these
incidents, you are lucky, if you do remember, thanks for your patience -
and your humour. At one time, I suggested that you read Karel Capek's
play R.U.R.. If you haven't done so yet, now would be a good time.
Happy posting, Suzanne
