Removing the Fig Leaf**


Get the lowdown on the Freedom of Information & Protection of Privacy Act with Darce Fardy, President of the Right to Know Coalition and Dean Jobb, faculty member, School of Journalism, University of King’s College. They will discuss the the process of requesting access to information and why requests can be denied or costly to obtain. Dean Jobb has filed many FOI requests over the past 20 years and you will hear fascinating stories from both speakers! 

Date and Time: Thursday, November 9th, 6.30 - 8.00 p.m. There will be a refreshment break followed by a Q & A session.

Place: Archibald Room, 3rd floor, New Academic Building, University of King’s College. (The New Academic Building is behind the pillared Arts & Administration building located on the right hand side of the Coburg Road entrance.) 

Parking: There should be lots of free parking after 6 pm in the main parking lot of King’s College.

Darce Fardy is the founder and President of the Right to Know Coalition of Nova Scotia, a non-profit agency to promote openness in government and to advocate the use of the Act. He became Nova Scotia’s first Review Officer under the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act and retired from that position in 2006 after 11 years. Before that, in Toronto, he had management responsibility for CBC programs such as “the fifth estate” for 8 years.

Dean Jobb is a faculty member of the School of Journalism at the University of King’s College. He has been teaching for many years on the topics of the law and media in Canada. He was a reporter, editor and columnist for 20 years at the Halifax Herald. He is also a member of the Right to Know Coalition of Nova Scotia.
