Duties:
Nova Scotia Provincial Library is seeking a Library Assistant I-II to
be part of a team providing centralized cataloguing for eight regional
public libraries. The successful candidate must be able to work quickly
and consistently with a minimum of supervision, producing high quality
MARC cataloguing records for a variety of material formats using AACR2
Rev. cataloguing standards and LC Subject Headings. Cataloguers perform
their duties using Sirsi's Unicorn integrated library system.
Responsibilities include selecting bibliographic and authority records
from a variety of commercial and non commercial sources using Z39.50
software and editing downloaded records to meet local standards, as well
as creating some original records. The successful candidate will be a
strong and flexible team player with an interest in supporting public
libraries.
Qualifications:
Grade 12 plus a Library Technician's Diploma, a preference will be
given to candidates with two years related experience. Demonstrated
experience in MARC coding, AACR2 Rev., Dewey Decimal Classification,
Library of Congress Subject Headings, bibliographic record structures
and online searching of bibliographic utilities such as AG Canada
(AGent) is required. Candidates must have an accurate data inputting
speed of 35 to 40 wpm and excellent attention to detail. Good written
and verbal communication skills, and the ability to work with minimum
supervision are required. Reading knowledge of French and experience
with cataloguing using an integrated library system are assets.
Classification Range: TE 10-13
Salary Range: $27,313 - $34,061
