The world is concerned that the H5N1 avian influenza virus may be the
trigger for the next pandemic. This could be devastating or a mild
event. Let us review the information we have to date and be informed on
the issues.
The Deputy Medical Health Officer for the Regina Qu'Appelle Health
Region briefly reviews the virus details, historical perspectives on
pandemic, global responses to date and a situation update of the H5N1
virus spread and impact. A brief overview of assumptions and some
scenario perspectives of possible outcomes.

About the presenter.....
Dr. Maurice Hennink is a the Deputy Medical Health Officer for the
Regina Qu'Appelle Health Region. He has a particular interest in
communicable disease control including influenza and Pandemic. He did
his medical training in South Africa and has been in Canada for the past
5 years.
