Connaught Branch Head
Under the direction of the Head of Public Services, the Connaught Branch
community librarian is responsible for the overall operation of the branch
and for the development, promotion and delivery of library services to the
Cathedral community. The community librarian is responsible for working
with the Cathedral community to articulate its needs for library service
and to determine ways to provide such a service, including contacting
community representatives and community organizations, conducting and
maintaining a community resource audit and developing methodologies such as
focus groups and surveys to evaluate library service. Other duties include
organizing and supervising the provision of readers advisory, reference,
circulation and other direct client services in the branch, as well as
establishing work routines and work loads for all staff in the branch
within established policies, and supervising staff performance.
The successful candidate will possess a Master of Library Science degree; a
minimum of three years of progressive experience as a professional
librarian including administration and management of staff; demonstrated
community development experience including knowledge and experience with
appropriate research methodologies; and demonstrated experience in working
with inner-city organizations and diverse groups and individuals.
Reference Specialist Science and Applied Science
Under the supervision of the Reference and Independent Learning Unit Head,
the Reference Specialist shares responsibility for the provision of direct
client information services at Central Library, for the supervision of
staff members involved in the delivery of these services, and for
collection development. The Reference Specialist is also responsible for
providing support for reference services in the library system by selecting
reference materials and training staff and the public in reference services
and within areas of specialized knowledge.
The successful candidate will possess a Masters degree in Library Science
with training and experience in database searching and training and/or work
experience in a subject specialization as assigned; minimum of three years
relevant library experience; strong client focus attributes; demonstrated
ability to train, motivate and direct staff in the performance of their
duties and to establish and maintain effective working relationships at all
levels. Preference will be given to applicants with a science and applied
science background.
Reference Specialist Prairie History & Genealogy
Under the supervision of the Reference and Independent Learning Unit Head,
the Reference Specialist shares responsibility for the provision of direct
client information services at Central Library and for the supervision of
staff members involved in the delivery of these services. The Reference
Specialist is also responsible for planning, delivering, and evaluating
programs, for collection development, and for training staff in reference
services and within areas of specialized knowledge.
The successful candidate will possess a Masters degree in Library Science
with a minimum of three years progressive experience and training in the
application of the principles of genealogical and historical research;
knowledge of and experience with database searching and the Internet;
demonstrated ability to train, motivate and direct staff in the performance
of their duties, and to establish and maintain effective working
relationships at all levels.
Salary range for the above positions: $45,282-54,379
