Community Development Librarian
One -Year Term Position
Under the direction of the Head of Public Services (Central and Inner-City
Libraries) and as part of the national Working Together pilot project, the
Community Development Librarian is responsible for working with the North
Central community to determine its needs for library service and to
determine ways to provide such a service. Duties include contacting
community representatives and organizations to reach individuals in the
community, conducting a community resource audit, developing a community
advisory committee, developing methodologies such as focus groups and
surveys to determine the needs of individuals in the community, and working
with the Albert Library Branch Head in reaching socially excluded community
residents. The incumbent will act as an intermediary between the community
and the Albert Library and develop and promote pilot programs and services
to meet the needs of the community.
Qualifications: A Masters in Library Science from an accredited school of
librarianship; a minimum of three years relevant library experience;
demonstrated Community Development experience including knowledge of and
experience with appropriate research methodologies; demonstrated experience
in working with inner-city organizations and diverse groups and
individuals; experience with the development, delivery and evaluation of
training programs for the public; experience with, and knowledge of,
Aboriginal cultures and languages; demonstrated ability to train, motivate,
and direct staff in the performance of their duties; demonstrated ability
to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; experience with PC
platform with office application software, presentation software, and
database searching.
Salary range: $45,282.88-54,379.23.
Position is available June 19, 2006 to June 29, 2007
