Saint Mary’s University Archives seeks an Archives
Assistant for a 12-week term effective June 5th to
August 25th, 2006. This position is funded through the
Young Canada Works in Heritage Organizations grant
program. Candidates must meet the eligibility
requirements of the grant which include:
• Canadian citizen or permanent resident
• Age of 30 or under
• Senior undergraduate or graduate student.
The primary work of the Archives Assistant involves
researching and describing our varied collection
according to accepted archival standards. Material may
include manuscript material, books, and photographs.
The descriptions will be added to our established
Archives databases. Other projects in our Archives and
Special Collections may be assigned.
The successful candidate for this position will have
archival training or library work experience
Familiarity with the Rules for Archival Description
(RAD) or other cataloguing standards is a definite
asset.. An ability to do methodical, detail-oriented
work is essential, as is familiarity with databases
and data entry.
This is a full-time (32.5 hours per week) summer
position with a salary of $11.50 per hour which
includes vacation pay.
