New Brunswick Public Library Service is searching for a dynamic professional librarian with demonstrated enthusiasm for the mission of public libraries, to serve as Head of Public Services at the Provincial Office in Fredericton.



DUTIES: Reporting to the Assistant Director, the Head of Public Services is responsible for the management of the provincial office Public Services Unit, which is composed of three permanent employees. The Unit is responsible for the development, implementation, coordination and evaluation of provincial programs, services and projects related to public services, including public services made possible through technology. In addition, the Head of Public Services oversees project teams that include regional public services librarians and various provincial committees.



As a member of the provincial office management team, the selected candidate will participate in strategic and operational planning; budget planning and control; and human resource management including the hiring, training and supervision of personnel.



The Head of Public Services is responsible for facilitating the delivery of materials for provincial programs and services to meet programming deadlines in public libraries; identifying provincial scale training needs and directing the development and implementation of appropriate training programs; promoting and marketing provincial public library programs and services through various means such as developing press releases, pamphlets, and television ads; engaging in public and media relations; establishing partnerships with various organizations; overseeing and preparing grant applications; participating in national initiatives; attending Provincial Management Team and provincial Board meetings in order to present information and recommendations; making public presentations; conducting research and preparing reports; and assuming other duties as assigned.



QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants must possess a master’s degree in Library and/or Information Studies from an ALA accredited school and at least four (4) years of relevant professional experience are essential. Written and spoken competence in English and in French is required.



Candidates must be Canadian Citizens or permanent residents.



We are searching for a team leader with a demonstrated sense of organization coupled with problem solving and analytical skills.



The successful candidate will have strong interpersonal and communication skills. He or she must also have demonstrated ability in project planning and management, and good knowledge of library programming, traditional and electronic reference tools, training, as well as public and media relations.



This position may require travel as well as weekend and evening work from time to time. A valid driver’s license is required.

Le Service des bibliothèques publiques du Nouveau-Brunswick est à la recherche d’un bibliothécaire ou d’une bibliothécaire professionnel(le) dynamique et enthousiaste à l’égard de la mission des bibliothèques publiques pour pourvoir le poste de Chef des services publics au bureau provincial à Fredericton.



FONCTIONS : La personne choisie relèvera de la directrice adjointe. Elle sera chargée de la gestion de la Section des services publics du bureau provincial, laquelle est composée d’une équipe de trois employés permanents. Cette équipe voit à l’élaboration, à la mise en œuvre, à la coordination et à l’évaluation des programmes, services et projets provinciaux liées aux services publics, y compris les services publics rendus possibles grâce à la technologie. De plus, elle s’occupera d’encadrer des équipes de projet qui incluent les bibliothécaires des services publics des bureaux régionaux et divers comités provinciaux.



À titre de membre de l’équipe de gestion du bureau provincial, la personne choisie participera à la planification stratégique et opérationnelle, à la planification et au contrôle budgétaire, et à la gestion des ressources humaines (embauche, formation et encadrement).



La personne choisie aura la responsabilité d’assurer la livraison aux bibliothèques publiques du matériel nécessaire à la prestation des programmes et services provinciaux selon les échéanciers; de déterminer les besoins provinciaux en matière de perfectionnement du personnel ainsi que de diriger l’élaboration et la mise en oeuvre de programmes de formation adapté; de promouvoir les programmes et services d’envergure provinciale par divers moyens tels que l’élaboration de communiqués de presse, de dépliants et d’annonces télévisées; de mener des activités de relations publiques et médiatiques; d’établir des partenariats; de diriger et soumettre des demandes de subvention; de participer à des initiatives nationales; d’assister à des réunions de l’équipe de gestion provinciale et de la commission provinciale afin de présenter des rapports ou des recommandations; de donner des présentations publiques; d’effectuer des recherches et rédiger des rapports; et d’exercer d’autres fonctions selon les besoins.



CONDITIONS DE CANDIDATURE : Vous devez posséder une maîtrise en bibliothéconomie et/ou en sciences de l’information d'une école accréditée par l’ALA et au moins quatre (4) années d’expérience professionnelle pertinente. La connaissance du français et de l’anglais, à l’oral et à l’écrit, est essentielle.



Les personnes intéressées doivent être de citoyenneté canadienne ou des résidents permanents.



La personne recherchée saura faire preuve de leadership et possèdera un excellent sens de l’organisation, de même que des aptitudes pour la résolution de problèmes et l’analyse.



La personne choisie possèdera d’excellentes aptitudes pour les relations interpersonnelles et la communication. Elle devra avoir de très bonnes habiletés pour la planification et la gestion de projets; ainsi qu’une bonne connaissance des domaines suivants : la programmation d’activités dans les bibliothèques, les outils de référence traditionnels et électroniques, la formation ainsi que les relations publiques et médiatiques.



Ce poste peut nécessiter des déplacements et comprendre des heures de travail en soirée et la fin de semaine selon les besoins. Un permis de conduire valide est requis.
