The Nova Scotia Provincial Library will be hosting the Canadian Library
Association teleconference "Access for All! Understanding and
Providing Library Services for People with Print Disabilities" on
February 22nd.  Rosemary Griebel, Manager of Calgary Public Library's
Diversity Services will be presenting this teleconference with
assistance from Shelagh Paterson of the CNIB Library.

Over 10% of your patron base cannot read regular print due to a
disability. While the information needs of these patrons are as diverse
as your entire community, the ways of accessing library services and
resources may be different. This session is designed to help your
library build or strengthen services for people with print disabilities.
Topics to be covered include:
- Legislative framework for providing service
- Community assessment and outreach tactics
- Understanding unique needs
- Service delivery: components of an equitable library service
- Tools and best practices.

About the Presenters:

As Manager of Calgary Public Library's Diversity Services, Rosemary
Griebel is active in ensuring accessible, leading edge services for all
library users, particularly those with print disabilities. Rosemary has
been developing library services for persons with disabilities since
1994, and was a member of the Alberta Access Project Steering Committee,
which initiated the first province wide library agreement with CNIB. She
also worked with the community to develop innovative technology
workstations that accommodate the needs of users with diverse
disabilities. In 2000 Calgary Public Library was the recipient of the
Dr. Dayton Forman Memorial Award for outstanding leadership in
information services for blind and visually impaired Canadians. Rosemary
has spoken about disability services at national and international
library conferences.

Shelagh Paterson has worked for the CNIB Library for 8 years in the
areas of digital collections, advocacy, and communications. During this
time she has developed online collections compatible with adaptive
technology, has worked with public and academic libraries across Canada
on the delivery of alternative format books to local patrons, and was a
member of the CLA Working Group to Define a National Network of Library
Services.

FORMAT: 60 minute teleconference with handout.  The session will be
followed by a question and answer segment. Additional resources will be
made available on the CLA web site for registrants following the
session.
