The Nova Scotia Provincial Library will be hosting an audio conference
on "Just-in-Time Tutorials using ViewletBuilder" on March 7th. This
is part of the Education Institute's TECH TUESDAYS: TALKING WITH
TECHIES series. Create point-of-need tutorials quickly with
ViewletBuilder and post them to your Web site. In a matter of minutes
you can respond to questions and problems being asked through virtual
and face-to-face reference services, from how to recall a book,
requesting an interlibrary loan to limiting a search to scholarly
articles published in the last 3 years! Viewlets show screens, typing
and mouse movements with accompanying text and/or audio. Make the most
of ViewletBuilder for on-line instruction, reusing, repurposing and
sharing viewlet content. Find out how easy it is to build tutorials for
a consortium and edit them to reflect local information.
The Benefits
- an informative overview of building tutorials
- ideas for where you could add tutorials to your own site.
- how viewlet content can be repurposed or shared with other libraries.
Who Should Participate?
Library Webmasters, Web site content providers, reference and
instruction librarians who are interested in developing tutorials or
just in time instruction would find this session useful. Just in time
tutorials can be developed for almost any area of the Web site from "how
to request a book" to "searching a database" to "connecting to databases
from home". Anyone who is developing content for the Web site would find
this useful and see opportunities for serving library users better.
