Social Sciences Librarian
Carnegie Mellon University Libraries invites applications for the Social
Sciences Librarian, a full-time member of the Hunt Library reference
department. This librarian serves as liaison to the H. John Heinz III
School of Public Policy and Management, to the Department of Statistics and
to the Department of Social and Decision Sciences. Liaison responsibilities
to these departments include specialized reference support, collection
development and library instruction. The librarian also has the broader
responsibility to provide specialized reference to all library users
seeking advanced assistance in public policy, statistics and social
sciences.
The Social Sciences Librarian also provides social sciences, humanities and
business reference services at Hunt Library reference desk. This librarian
coordinates the acquisition and use of electronic datafiles and datasets
campus wide and serves as the university liaison to ICPSR.
This position is part of the Librarian/Archivist track of the university
faculty. Attainment of promotion and continuing appointment is dependent on
job performance, research, scholarly or artistic activity, and service.
Initial appointment will be commensurate with the candidate’s experience
and professional achievement.
Required Qualifications:
ALA-accredited MLS or ALA-recognized international equivalent.
Coursework or degree in public policy, management, statistics, or social
and decision sciences.
Demonstrated knowledge of print and electronic information resources and
information technologies.
Ability to work individually and as part of a team.
Outstanding written, oral and interpersonal communication skills.
Potential to meet the university’s requirements for promotion and

Desirable Qualifications:
Two or more years of social science or academic library reference
experience.
Proven skills in traditional and digital reference, instruction and
computing.
Demonstrated experience with government documents, quantitative research
methods, and statistical resources.
Salary negotiable from $32,000 minimum depending on qualifications and
experience. Comprehensive benefits package. Applications received by March
