Engineering and Science Library Public Services Librarian for
Undergraduate Services

DESCRIPTION:  Queen's University Library requires an innovative, energetic
and service-oriented public services librarian to deliver services in
support of undergraduate teaching and learning. Reporting to the Head,
Engineering and Science Library, the librarian is primarily responsible
for identifying, developing, promoting, delivering and assessing
information literacy, and other library services for first and second year
undergraduate students in the pure and life sciences. As part of a team in
the Engineering and Science Library the librarian provides reference and
research services, participates in the provision of orientation and
instructional programs, and is responsible for faculty liaison and
collection development in assigned subject areas.  The librarian consults
and collaborates with other service providers in the Library, and with the
Bracken Health Sciences Library in particular, and promotes the vision of
a team-based learning organization.

QUALIFICATIONS: Required: An ALA accredited MLIS or equivalent; an
energetic, flexible, creative, and proactive approach and a strong
interest in and commitment to working with undergraduate students and
bringing innovation to teaching information literacy and research skills;
high level of technological literacy including web page creation and
knowledge of or experience with instructional technologies; excellent
interpersonal skills and demonstrated excellence in oral and written
communication;  ability to work effectively in both a team-based and
self-directed environment.  Preferred: Academic background in the sciences
or previous experience in an engineering and science or health/life
sciences library.

ENVIRONMENT: Queen's University Library comprises five major libraries in
well-equipped facilities.  It serves a user community of approximately
18,000 students and 800 faculty with research collections exceeding 7
million items, access to more than 18,000 electronic journals and 400
databases, a staff of 160 and a budget exceeding $17 million.  A
team-based organization based on the goals of the learning organization
was introduced in 1999 to encourage innovation and flexibility in meeting
the service needs of the Library's users community.

The Engineering and Science Library serves the learning, teaching and
research needs of the undergraduates, graduates, faculty and researchers
in the pure and applied sciences.  In addition, the Library serves the
needs of students and faculty in a variety of interdisciplinary programs.
The Library's current staff complement of 4 librarians and 10 FTE library
technicians, strive to provide a welcoming and responsive environment for
all our users.

SALARY AND BENEFITS:  The academic staff at Queen's University are
governed by a Collective Agreement between the Queen's University Faculty
Association (QUFA) and the University, which is posted at

anticipated that the position will be filled at the rank of General
Librarian. The minimum salary for a General Librarian is $43,413.  This is
a continuing track appointment, available immediately.
